Dr. Robertson is a third-generation Santa Barbaran. Both his father, Ronald G. Robertson, Senior, and his brother, Sean Robertson, are dentists in the area. Ron Senior has since retired and Sean specializes in endodonic or root canal therapy.

Dr. Robertson attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton where he received his bachelor's degree. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from the University of the Pacific's Dental School in San Francisco in 1986. He is a graduate of Santa Barbara High School, class of 1979.
